BUYER QUESTIONS

These luxury power catamaran faqs collect the questions buyers actually ask us, in the order they usually ask them, with the real figures rather than a brochure answer. Where a number is settled we print it. Where it depends on your specification we say so. Every price and specification quoted here comes from the same structured source that feeds the model pages, so nothing on this page can drift out of step with the rest of the site.

Fast facts

  • The OceanWalker S60 is priced at 3.2 million euros with all options included and is available now in the Mediterranean.
  • The electric OceanWalker S60E is offered at price on application against a preliminary specification.
  • Every sale includes delivery to your chosen port, a berth arranged on your behalf, and the first year of scheduled maintenance.
  • European Yacht Brokers covers nine countries as a single agency, so the price for a given specification does not change between them.
  • These luxury power catamaran faqs are reviewed against the model data whenever a specification changes.

How to use these luxury power catamaran faqs

The questions below are grouped in the order a purchase actually happens: choosing a boat, agreeing a price, taking delivery, understanding the specification, running the thing, and dealing with tax and registration. If you read them in order you will have covered most of what a first conversation with us would cover anyway.

Two conventions apply throughout these luxury power catamaran faqs. First, any figure given is the figure held in the model data on this site, not an approximation written for the page. Second, where the honest answer is that it depends on your specification, that is what we have written, because a range invented to fill a gap is worse than no number at all.

If your question is not answered here, the shortest route is to ask it directly. We answer by email, in writing, with numbers.

Buying: choosing the right boat

Which OceanWalker model should I be looking at?

It depends on how you cruise. The S60 suits owners who want four en-suite cabins and long range at 18 knots. The X62 is the performance boat at 25 knots. The X53 is the smallest at 16.25 metres. The S60E is for owners who prioritise silence at anchor over top speed.

What is the difference between a power catamaran and a motor yacht?

A power catamaran carries its volume across two hulls rather than one. That gives far more beam for the same length, a level platform at anchor and under way, shallower draft, and lower drag at cruising speed. The trade is berth availability, since an 8.38 metre beam is refused by some marinas.

Can I see a boat before I commit?

Yes. We arrange a private viewing on the water, on your schedule, with the boat prepared as it would be at handover. You see the actual systems and the actual noise levels at the actual speeds. Every figure discussed is then confirmed to you in writing.

Do I need crew?

Not necessarily. The S60 and S60E carry two crew cabins for owners who want crew, but both are designed to be handled by an owner and one other person. Differential thrust on twin engines makes close-quarters work considerably easier than on a single-hull yacht of similar length.

How long does the whole process take?

From first enquiry to handover, a boat already in stock is typically a matter of weeks rather than months, because the unit is physically in Europe. A new build against a specification runs to roughly eighteen months, which is why the in-stock page is where most buyers start.

Price and payment: luxury power catamaran faqs

Price questions come up first and are answered here without qualification wherever a figure exists.

How much does an OceanWalker S60 cost?

The OceanWalker S60 is 3.2 million euros with all options included. That is the commercial price of the boat and it is the same figure in every country we cover, because there is no dealer margin added between the yard and the buyer.

Why is the S60E price on application?

Because its specification is still preliminary. Battery capacity, the generation package and the range extender configuration are settled with each owner, and each of those choices moves the figure materially. We confirm a fixed price in writing against a written specification rather than publishing a number we would then have to revise.

Does the price change depending on which country I buy in?

No. European Yacht Brokers is one central agency covering nine countries rather than nine separate dealers, so there is no local margin to add. The same written specification carries the same price in Cannes, Palma, Split or Athens.

What is not included in the price?

VAT and registration, insurance, crew if you employ any, fuel, and berthing beyond the first arrangement we make for you. Delivery, the berth arrangement itself and the first twelve months of scheduled maintenance are included.

Is the quoted price fixed?

Yes. A price issued in writing against a written specification does not move afterwards. If you change the specification the price is reissued; if you do not, it stands.

Delivery, berthing and the first season

Where will the boat be delivered?

To the port you nominate within our nine countries, by our own crew, insured in transit. Principal ports we routinely use include Cannes, Genoa, Palma, Lisbon, Split, Athens, Limassol, Valletta and Hamburg. Others are arranged on request.

Will you find me a berth?

Yes, and it is included. A berth for an 8.38 metre beam in the Mediterranean in high season is genuinely difficult to secure and expensive when found. We arrange and contract it on your behalf, which is one of the more valuable parts of what we do.

What happens at handover?

Handover runs over two days at your berth. The first day covers systems: batteries, solar, generator, navigation, tender and davit gear. The second is on the water with you and any regular crew, covering close-quarters handling, anchoring and the flybridge station.

What does the first year of maintenance cover?

Scheduled servicing for twelve months, carried out by yards we appoint and supervise rather than whoever is nearest. It is included because the first year is when a new boat reveals whatever it is going to reveal, and we would rather be the ones who find it.

What paperwork do I receive?

CE certification, engine and generator warranty registrations, the verified specification sheet, the survey carried out at our cost, and the maintenance schedule for the first year. The survey travels with the boat rather than staying in a file at the yard.

Specification and performance

What are the S60 headline figures?

Length overall 18.87 metres, beam 8.38 metres, four en-suite guest cabins plus two crew cabins, headroom of 6ft 11in and a flybridge exceeding 500 square feet. Twin Volvo Penta D6-440 diesels give 880 hp, 18 knots and around 1,500 nautical miles.

How is the electric S60E different?

Same hull, beam, cabins, headroom and flybridge. Propulsion becomes two 150 kW electric motors drawing on two 141 kWh LiFePO4 clusters, supported by a rooftop photovoltaic system and two 55 kW diesel range extenders. Top speed is 12 knots and cruising speed 8 knots.

How much solar does the S60 carry?

Twenty-two panels rated at 9 kW, plus a 32 kW generator. The wide bridgedeck of a catamaran presents far more usable roof area to the sun than a monohull of the same length, which is why solar is worth specifying properly on this platform.

What is the fastest boat in the range?

The X62, with twin Volvo Penta D13-800 units producing 1,600 hp and a top speed of 25 knots. It carries three to four guest cabins plus one crew cabin on a 5.20 metre beam. Price and availability are on request.

Where do the published figures come from?

From one structured data source held on this site, which also feeds the model pages, the comparison tables and the brochures. That is why the same number appears everywhere. If a cited figure and the source ever disagree, the source is correct and the page gets fixed.

Ownership and running costs: luxury power catamaran faqs

The purchase figure is the visible half of ownership. These luxury power catamaran faqs cover the other half.

What does a boat like this cost to run annually?

It depends on usage, berth and whether you employ crew, so we will not invent a percentage. The controllable items are berthing, insurance, scheduled maintenance, antifouling and fuel. We provide an itemised annual estimate for your intended pattern of use before you sign, not after.

Is the electric boat cheaper to run?

On propulsion, materially so. There is no fuel bill for the motors, no main-engine servicing, no oil changes, impellers or exhaust elbows. The range extenders still require conventional maintenance. Berthing, insurance and crew costs are unchanged between the two boats.

How difficult is it to berth an 8.38 metre beam?

Harder than a monohull and worth planning for. Some marinas refuse the beam outright and others charge a multiple. This is precisely why the berth arrangement is included in the sale rather than left to the owner to discover in June.

Who maintains the boat after the first year?

We do, through the same yards, under a continuing arrangement across all nine countries. Because European Yacht Brokers is one agency rather than a dealer network, the standard does not change when you move the boat from Italy to Croatia.

What happens if something breaks in a country I am cruising through?

You call us, not a local dealer, because there is no local dealer. We hold the relationships with the yards and arrange the work. One point of contact is the entire point of the way this agency is structured.

VAT, registration and flag

Do I pay VAT on the boat?

Almost certainly, but the rate and the point of taxation depend on the flag, the place of delivery and the intended use. The framework is published by the European Commission taxation and customs authority, and our EU yacht VAT guide for buyers sets out the detail.

Is the electric boat treated differently for VAT?

No. Propulsion type does not change the VAT treatment of a yacht. The rate and point of taxation follow flag, delivery and use in exactly the same way for the S60E as for the diesel S60.

Which flag should I register under?

It depends on where you will keep the boat, whether you intend to charter and your own residence. Malta, Cyprus and the Red Ensign registries each suit different circumstances. We go through the options with you before signature rather than leaving it to a broker afterwards.

Can I charter the boat to offset costs?

In some jurisdictions and under some registrations, yes, but chartering changes the VAT position, the insurance requirement and the survey regime. It is a decision to take before you register, not after, and we will tell you plainly where it does not stack up.
